Growing up in a conservative church background we sang a lot of songs about the blood: There is Power in the Blood Oh the Blood of Jesus What Can Wash Away My Sins? (Nothing but the Blood of Jesus) The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power I hear less and less songs about the blood. […]
It is now four days since Christmas. I have my Christmas decorations all boxed up and downstairs in the storage room. Today I am dusting, vacuuming and doing whole house cleaning. Getting rid of the cookie crumbs in the carpet, the shiny tinsel that dropped from the tree ornaments as we took them off the […]
Today is the third week I have not been able to make it to church. Two weeks ago I was in too much pain to go. Last week we were all snowed in and church was cancelled. Today I am suffering again from pain. Feeling a little down – I miss my church family, I […]
Following the Oregon Trail we came upon a large rock made of limestone. The rock stood high above the Platte River Valley. The soft limestone rock made it easy for people to carve their names in. Travelers heading for Oregon carved their names in the rock. More than 700 names are on the rock. At […]
What a week this has been! Sunday evening my husband was rushed into emergency surgery for a subdural hematoma. Because of the coronavirus I could not go to the hospital with him. At 3:30 that afternoon the surgeon’s assistant called me and told me they were doing emergency surgery and without the surgery my husband […]
A few years ago my husband and I bought our little granddaughter some toy zoo animals. We assumed she would play with them for a couple of years and then we would pass them on to another small child. We also assumed she would just play with them by herself. Were we ever wrong! From […]
A new songbook called Olney Hymns was published in 1779 and one of the songs in the book became perhaps the best loved and well known hymn that is today known by another name. Guess what song it is! This song was part of a section in the hymn book that contained songs based on […]
When I think of sand, I think of the desert. But how neat to enjoy sand dunes right here in Michigan – right alongside a beautiful lake! We explored the sand dunes at Silver Lake. They are located along Lake Michigan between Muskegon and Ludington. Over 2,000 acres of sand, the dunes are part of […]
A few days before Thanksgiving I posted a blog from last year where I encouraged us to give thanks even in the midst of the chaos of 2020. Can We Give Thanks in 2020…..2021? Shortly after posting that blog my youngest daughter called to tell me she had some bad news. Our granddaughter had been […]
When I was 54 years old I was diagnosed with a very aggressive and advanced stage of breast cancer. My doctor said I had only a small chance of still being alive in ten years. Ten years – that would put me into retirement age. At that time I planned to retire at age 62. […]

In our daily devotions my husband and I have been reading the book of Exodus. It was interesting to me to see that when the Israelites were delivered from bondage in Egypt God chose to not lead them directly to the land He had promised them. Rather, he led them into the wilderness. When Pharoah […]

Tomorrow I will have an angiogram. After several weeks of chest pain, shortness of breath and extreme fatigue, my doctor did a stress test last week. The test indicates there may be some blockage in the lower part of my heart. Maybe – maybe not. So tomorrow I go in and if there is blockage […]
